New Piston Art

Published on May 5, 2013

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted an update. I’ve been working on improving the pistons, and it hasn’t gone very smooth. I think I have it almost nailed down, and spent some time getting new art in the game for them as well, as I didn’t like the previous one.

I’m still testing the fixes, and should have the new patch updated soon.

Here’s a peek at the new piston.

Still Plugging Away

Published on April 14, 2013

Still plugging away.. Progress has been a bit slow the last few weeks, but I’m getting there. I’m working on reworking the Piston a bit in addition to fixing it. I feel like it is close to being nailed down, but I still have some testing to do. I should have this patch out in a few days.

Also, I still plan on releasing the native Linux client, but that is going to be a bit further out. Getting the updater to work on Linux doesn’t seem like it will be quick, so I need to re-evaluate the timing for the release. I apologize for those that are waiting for it, but I need to prioritize the editor over the Linux port.

Well, back I go…

Post GDC Update

Published on April 2, 2013

So last week I was at the Game Developer Conference, and I am just now recovering. It was nice getting away from the desk, and connecting with my game industry friends. I got to see some pretty cool stuff, most notable was the new Epic Demo running in real time….

Pretty amazing!

Anyhow, a quick update on the plans for Crashtastic. First up, is fixing a few issues. I just fixed an issue with the rotators breaking off too easily when multiple rotators are used. Next up is fixing the quirkiness on the pistons. The 0.4.8 patch was pretty brutal on me to get out the door, and unfortunately, I introduced more bugs then I fixed. Sorry about that! I’ll be review the userecho as well to make sure I am nailing down bugs, so please post issues there:

Up next is updating the level editor and enabling level sharing, which means you won’t have to wait for me to create new content! I am super excited about the potential of what this will do for the game.

Linux support is coming soon as well!

Well, back to work….

Mark

Crashtastic Version 0.4.8 Now Available

Published on March 3, 2013

Crashtastic Version 0.4.8:

Two New Parts, Music, Tuning, Oh My!

Crashtastic, now includes a piston (which can be controlled with custom keys) and the rotator!

The Rotator:

  • The Rotator isn’t exactly a piece. You are allowed to select a given side of a node which will rotate with any attached piece.
  • In addition, you can limit the rotation of the piece by selecting the appropriate pieces of the “starburst” when creating the rotator.

Piston:

  • Pistons are added in a similar fashion to a brace.
  • They can be controlled (default keys are I and O). The default keys can be changed in the “Tune” menu.

Tuning Menu:

  • The new “Tuning” menu is accessed from the vehicle editor.
  • You can assign keys to rockets and pistons.
  • You can assign power to the rockets and shocks.
  • These settings will persist on loading and any tweaks you make during simulation.

Music:

  • Three music tracks created by the talented Chris Apple.
  • Updated settings menu to enable Music Volume Control.

Bug Fixes and Improvements:

  • Improved brace system. You no longer need to attach it to two nodes. One will be created at the correct location.
  • Fixed lighting on a few levels and menus.
  • Fixed issue wih extra pieces showing up in replay
  • Fixed an issue with duplicated Nodes.
